To our loyal customers and users of the original
Japanese Kamado/Hibachi

Thank you for your order of replacement parts to your Kamado and the use of our products for so many years. In order to furnish answers to your frequently asked questions (FAQ) about Japanese Kamados, we would like to provide the following information. Some of you were given, inherited or purchased the original model and want to know its history.

Traditional Style (Kamado and Hibachi)

  • If your Kamado/Hibachi (model #3 and #5) is more than 22 years old, the sizes were little bit different because three manufacturers made these products. In 1980-1982, two of the factories closed due to sudden death of one owner and the retirement of the other, leaving only one factory until 1995 (the last skilled Japanese craftsman died in 1995). We designated the name "Kamado" (generic Japanese word) for the product of two manufacturers and "Hibachi" (generic Japanese word) for one. Because of these three different manufacturers, even the same model, and sizes were not exactly alike due to differences in the molds and process of handicraft. For example, cooking grills were between 17-1/2" to 18" dia. for mold #5.

  • During the period of 1973-1987, we exported from Japan to US and carried model #0 (grill size 9"), #1 (12"), #2 (14") and #4 (16") also. However, these models were discontinued after that. Therefore, these replacement parts are not available.

Modern Style (Kamado only)

  • Also we carried modern style; L size (18"), M size (15") and S size (12") during the period of 1974 to 1986. However, these models were completely discontinued since 1986, even though some stocks may still be sold at our dealer's outlets.
Therefore, these replacement parts are not available from us.

Availability

  • Kindly be advised that current earthenware replacement parts made in China, model #3 and model #5 are little bit larger than that of made in Japan due to the difference of the molds and process of drying, however these can be adapted to the older Kamado/Hibachi of model #3 and #5.

  • Also kindly note that there are copy products from Taiwan sold as China Pot, Big Green Egg and Kyoto made of similar fire clay, but inferior in quality, if made during in the period of 1979 to 1994. So please be sure you have the genuine Kamado before placing orders for replacement parts.
